Whilst others in Odd Future have matured with age (Frank Ocean and Earl Sweatshirt) it seems as though Tyler is still happy to be the class clown. Not that there is anything wrong with that, when he has a harem of followers in the palm of his hand who will lap up every tweet, video, song he puts out there.
The only issue is that with such a loyal fan-base, is there is anyone there to keep The Creator pushing himself musically, instead of just treading over old ground? Lyrically, Tyler is still hard-to-catch as he weaves through words and themes like a snake. But the production of this does not scream ‘single’, even with the golden vocals of Mr. Ocean in support.
Still, if it’s surreal you’re after, then Tyler is always the place to go. You just have to wonder whether he’s ran out of tricks.
