Weekend – Mirror

We are big fans of Weekend here at The Raccoon. New track Mirror reiterates everything we like about them, whilst also opening new doors in the band’s textural maturity. Debut LP ‘Sports’ dropped in 2010 and was a noisy, progressive affair. Clouded with bleakness and elements of a band hiding behind distortion. Not a bad thing by any means, but you could always sense there was more there. ‘Mirror’, the first single from new album ‘Jinx’, completely proves that there certainly is more behind the noise. There’s a strong post-punk aesthetic going on here, with elements of Joy Division and ‘Disintegration’ era Cure blending with a rhythmic style that brings to mind A Place to Bury Strangers. It’s well worth a listen.

‘Jinx’ is released on Slumberland Records July 23rd.
